BNP Paribas Chamber Music Series

Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the art museum of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture, resumes its partnership with the São Paulo Symphonic Orchestra (OSESP), this year with the BNP Paribas Chamber Music Series

The OSESP performances will take place in the Atrium at Pina Luz, always on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. On these days, the museum will extend its hours and distribute 120 tickets to those interested, starting at 7:00 p.m. The OSESP concert series at Pinacoteca is sponsored by BNP Paribas and is part of the “Music at Pina” project. This is the first time BNP Paribas sponsors a series, with performances distributed throughout the year. The bank has a tradition of sponsoring cultural events in Brazil through the BNP Paribas Foundation. Check out the schedule: 

4/18  – QUARTETO VILLA-LOBOS
Quarteto Villa-Lobos, featuring Camila Yasuda and Carolina Kliemann (violins), Sarah Nascimento (viola) and Wilson Sampaio (cello), will put on the first performance of the series on April 18, with a repertoire featuring JOHANNES BRAHMS (String Quartet, Op. 51) and HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS (String Quartet n.1).

6/20 – QUINTETO DE SOPROS ZEPHYROS
On June 20, Pinacoteca will receive Quinteto de Sopros Zephyros, featuring musicians from the São Paulo Symphonic Orchestra (OSESP): Cláudia Nascimento (flute), Arcádio Minczuk (oboe), Ovanir Buosi (clarinet) and Fábio Cury (bassoon). The group will present works by WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (Fantasia in F Major KV 608), CARL NIELSEN (Quintet Op.43) and RONALDO MIRANDA (Serious Variations on a Theme by Anacleto de Medeiros).

8/29 – MUSICIANS FROM OSESP AND FÁBIO ZANON
The group will perform pieces BY HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS (Five Preludes for Guitar and String Quintet) and CLAUDE DEBUSSY (Sonata for flute, viola and harp). Cláudia Nascimento (flute), Ederson Fernandes (viola), Suelen Sampaio (harp), Adrian Petrutiu (violin) and Adriana Holtz (cello), plus Fábio Zanon (violin), on August 29th.

09/12 – CAMALEON BASSOONS
Founded in 2011, Camaleon Bassoons is composed of the bassoon section of the São Paulo Symphonic Orchestra (OSESP): Alexandre Silvério, José Arion Liñarez, Francisco Formiga and Romeu Rabelo, with the guest musician Mariana Bergenstein (bassoons). Since its founding, Camaleon Bassoons has sought to spread the sound of the bassoon through an innovative and creative repertoire, ranging from original works for this formation to innovative arrangements and transcriptions. In the Atrium at Pina Luz, the group will perform pieces by JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH (Prelude and Fugue BWV 553-560 – arrangement by Romeu Rabelo); ALLAN STEPHENSON (Divertimento); HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS (Chorus n.5 – arrangement by Romeu Rabelo); TOM JOBIM and VINÍCIUS DE MORAES (Orfeu da Conceição: opening – arrangement by Romeu Rabelo); LEONARD BERNSTEIN (Wonderful Town: opening – arrangement by Romeu Rabelo); RICHARD RODGERS (My Favorite Things – arrangement by Alexandre Silvério); DUKE ELLINGTON (Sentimental Mood – arrangement by Alexandre Silvério); and PAUL DESMOND (Take Five – arrangement by Alexandre Silvério).

10/24  – OSESP QUARTET
Founded in 2008, the Quarteto Osesp brings together the Orchestra’s Concertmaster, Emmanuele Baldini, violinist Davi Graton, violist Peter Pas, and cellist Heloisa Meirelles. Since its INCEPTION, the Quarteto Osesp has had its own series in Sala São Paulo, where classic works and innovative and creative proposals are presented. Its repertoire is extremely vast, including works ranging from the Baroque era to young contemporary composers. On October 24, they will perform works by FRANZ SCHUBERT (Quartettsatz, D 703), EDINO KRIEGER (Telas Sonoras), and LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN (Quartet Op.59).

12/05  – ESCUALO ENSEMBLE – CONTEMPORARY TANGO
With an unusual formation, gathering violin, double bass, piano and vibraphone, the Escualo Ensemble is dedicated to exploring tango with sophisticated arrangements and interpretations. The group consists of OSESP musicians Claudio Torezan (double bass) and Rubén Zúñiga (vibraphone), plus guest musicians Daniel Grajew (piano) and Amanda Martins (violin). Closing out the BNP Paribas Chamber Music Series, the group will present a special repertoire of contemporary tango, with pieces by iconic composers of the genre such as ASTOR PIAZZOLLA (Escualo, Milonga en Re, and Zum); OSVALDO FRESEDO (Mi Viejo Reloj); DANIEL GRAJEW (Milonga Cuera); DIEGO SCHISSI (Astor de Pibe); OSVALDO PUGLIESE (Negracha); LEOPOLDO FEDERICO (Cabulero); and HORACIO SALGÁN (A fuego lento).
