Starting May 20, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the art museum of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture, opens the exhibit titled “Antilogias: O fotográfico na Pinacoteca” [“Antilogies: Photography at the Pinacoteca”] The curator is Mariano Klautau Filho, with the participation of Pedro Nery, associate curator. Sponsored by Banco Haitong in Brazil, the show – which gathers around 250 works by 60 artists – has as an axis the Pinacoteca’s collection and aims to discuss the photographic medium for composition and production of images and objects, in its wide range of possibilities, narratives and media.

“The intention is to display works that, on the one hand, are able to recount certain paths of the history of the photographic collection and its development, and on the other hand, propose an approach to contemporary production, with no particular chronological order, underpinned by the relationship among the poetic images,” explains Klautau.

In addition to works from Pinacoteca’s collection, the show also comprises works by artists from Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Pará and São Paulo, invited by the curator. “These artists form different generations gathered in this exhibit expand the questions posed by the institution’s collection itself, which makes the show an exercise in reading the photographic collection of the Pinacoteca,” adds Klautau.

Pinacoteca de São Paulo plans to publish a bilingual catalog (Portuguese / English) in late July, with views of the exhibit and texts by Mariano Klautau, Pedro Nery and the Museological Collection Center.
