Vídeos: The Caipiras: the science of restoration

With the support of the Physics Institute of the University of São Paulo, for the first time in a century, these works underwent physical and chemical examinations. The team, led by Professor Marcia Rizzutto, was able to identify how the artist worked on the relationship between the structure of the drawing and color, in addition to raising hypotheses about how the colors of the works may have changed over time. According to the curator of the exhibition: “Almeida Júnior’s works have been the subject of research for over a century. One of the functions of the Pinacoteca and of an exhibition like this is to understand the debate that has been going on up until now and to help it continue.”
